As part of a Local Power Purchase Agreement (LPPA), Sunrock has installed a 3.24 MWp photovoltaic system at Thalia’s Omni-Channel Hub in Marl, supplying the bookseller with locally generated renewable electricity.
The rooftop solar installation on the approximately 56,000 m² Omni-Channel Hub generates around 2,960 MWh of solar power annually and reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,317 tonnes per year.
Benefits for the Tenant: Reliable Supply and Predictable Energy Costs
Around 65% of the energy generated by Sunrock is consumed directly on-site to operate the Omni-Channel Hub, already covering approximately 23.5% of the facility’s total electricity demand. For Thalia, this means greater energy security and more predictable long-term energy costs.
Full-Service Approach: From Planning to Long-Term Operation
Sunrock delivered the project within eight months – from initial planning and installation through to commissioning and grid connection in April 2026. Following completion, Sunrock continues to operate and manage the system over the long term.
A Joint Commitment by Owner and Tenant
“For us, it was clear from the outset that the new location in Marl should not only be highly functional but also designed for a sustainable energy future,” explains Julian Freimuth, Technical Director at Thalia‘s Omni-Channel-Hub. “With Sunrock’s solar installation, we are generating part of our electricity demand directly on-site. This gives us greater security of supply while also providing a reliable basis for planning our future energy costs.”
Serkan Aydemir, Director Industrial at the developer and owner ParkProperty Europe, comments: “At the Omni-Channel Hub in Marl, our goal was to bring economic requirements and sustainable construction together from the very beginning – not as opposing objectives, but as a shared ambition. Sunrock’s photovoltaic system represents an important building block in making the site future-proof over the long term while also supporting the ongoing transformation of the region.”
“Marl demonstrates how we operate as a full-service partner: We support both owners and tenants throughout the entire project lifecycle – from initial planning through to the long-term operation of the solar installation. Close coordination with all stakeholders is essential, as only integrated energy solutions can deliver results that are both environmentally responsible and
economically compelling,” adds Georg Brenninkmeijer, Managing Director at Sunrock Germany.
