Sunrock installs 23 MWp of rooftop solar for Mercedes-Benz in Germany

Dutch solar roof specialist Sunrock is installing around 23 MWp of rooftop solar arrays at several Mercedes-Benz Group AG (ETR:MBG) locations across Germany to supply the car maker with locally generated electricity for internal processes.
The project will see Sunrock install solar panels atop Mercedes-Benz buildings in Rastatt, Kuppenheim, Sindelfingen, Kamenz, Untertuerkheim, Bremen and Koelleda over the next two years. The assignment began at the end of 2023 with the installation of the first systems in Rastatt and Sindelfingen, Sunrock said.
The system in Kuppenheim will use German-made solar panels manufactured by Switzerland’s Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX:MBTN).
Once set up, the arrays will supply Mercedes-Benz will electricity from their own roofs under an on-site power purchase agreement (PPA), the Dutch specialist said.
“The goal for all Mercedes-Benz production facilities worldwide is to run on 100 percent renewable energy by 2039. The expansion of photovoltaic systems plays an important role in this. By turning our own production sites into production sites for renewable energies, we are making an active contribution to the energy transition in Germany,” commented Arno van der Merwe, Vice President Production Planning at Mercedes-Benz AG.
