Sunrock and PATRIZIA expand renewables partnership into Germany

Sunrock and PATRIZIA expanded their solar partnership into the German market following the successful implementation of major projects in the Netherlands.
Düsseldorf, 27 June 2024
Sunrock, the leading European developer of photovoltaic systems for large-area roofs, and PATRIZIA, the leading partner for global real assets, have expanded their renewables partnership into the German market with the installation of Photovoltaic systems at three PATRIZIA-owned logistics properties in Berlin and Hamm in North Rhine Westphalia. The three systems have a total capacity of 8.1 MWp, with future tenants able to purchase the locally generated electricity via a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement).
The projects are the first in Germany to be delivered as part of Sunrock’s partnership with PATRIZIA. They are the latest in a German portfolio of PV systems that Sunrock has been developing for the company since 2022, which has seen a total volume of 26 MWp contractually secured.
Over the next four years, Sunrock will equip a large part of PATRIZIA’s German logistics portfolio with PV systems. Sunrock and the global investment manager have already realized numerous projects together in the Netherlands, including one of the largest solar roof systems in Europe, which Sunrock connected to the grid in Rotterdam last year. The 120,000 m2 photovoltaic system has an output of 25 MWp, which corresponds to the annual energy demand of around 8,000 households.
Large-scale solar roof systems are an important part of PATRIZIA’s sustainability strategy and ambition to decarbonize its portfolio by 2040. Likewise, they are a key investment for driving the value of existing and new assets through the smart combination of sustainable infrastructure.
Sunrock and PATRIZIA are already planning future projects in Germany and France as part of their expanding partnership. These include exploring the implementation of additional energy solutions such as battery storage systems, e-mobility solutions and data management systems.
“The smart combination of real estate and infrastructure can play a vital role in driving the transition to clean energy, which is one of the major trends shaping our future economies. Equipping our assets with large-scale photovoltaic systems is a key part of our sustainability strategy and ambition to decarbonize our portfolio. We are pleased to expand our partnership with Sunrock to ensure climate-friendly energy generation and long-term value creation for our stakeholders in Germany,” says Hans Vermeeren, Head of Asset Management for DACH at PATRIZIA.
Sunrock has been active in Germany since 2022 and successfully realized several projects last year. For example, the company commissioned a PV system in Möckmühl, Baden-Württemberg, which has a total capacity of 3.2 MWp and provides the transport and logistics company DSV with sustainably generated electricity. Sunrock is planning to expand its activities in the focus market of Germany and France, and further projects and partnerships are already in the pipeline.
“The realization of the first three projects in cooperation with PATRIZIA in Germany is a good signal. With our integrated solar power solutions, we are helping to reduce emissions from logistics properties and support the company in achieving its ESG goals. We would like to thank PATRIZIA for the excellent cooperation and look forward to many more projects,” comments Hugo Willink, Executive Director Development at Sunrock.
