Sunrock, Europe’s leading developer of photovoltaic systems for large-scale roofs, is equipping buildings at the BMW Group’s Dingolfing and Regensburg plants with PV systems. Once completed, the two sites will be supplied with climate-friendly, locally generated energy via a PPA from 2025 onwards. In total, Sunrock is developing 125,000 sqm of PV roof space for BMW, with a total capacity of 14 MWp, generating 14.2 GWh of electricity—enough to meet the needs of several thousand households. In Dingolfing, one of Germany’s most powerful PV systems, with a capacity of 11.1 MWp, will be installed on a central aftersales logistics building covering over 100,000 square metres, generating approximately 11.3 GWh of electricity annually. In Regensburg, 25,000 sqm of PV roof space with a capacity of 2.9 MWp will produce around 2.9 GWh. Sunrock leases the roof space at both locations.
Nicole Haft-Zboril, Head of BMW Group Real Estate Management, emphasises, “This project not only creates one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic installations in Germany. We are also directly advancing the renewable energy supply of BMW Group sites on the factory premises.”
Construction work on the projects will commence in the coming months, with commissioning of the facilities in Regensburg and Dingolfing planned for 2025. Through collaboration with Sunrock, the automotive manufacturer continues to expand its integration of renewable energies at its sites.
