Logistics service provider accelerates electrification of fleet
Amsterdam, 08 June 2026 – Sunrock, a European specialist in solar energy solutions, has equipped the distribution center of Westerman Multimodal Logistics in Nieuwleusen with an integrated infrastructure for the generation and intelligent management of renewable energy, as well as the charging of electric trucks. The energy solution enables Westerman to optimally use locally generated energy through smart control, in combination with its limited contracted grid capacity. With this approach, Westerman supports the transition to zero-emission logistics and meets the requirements for Zero Emission Zones.
Sunrock provided Westerman with a solar PV installation of 2,058 panels with a peak capacity of 1,204 kWp. In the future, a battery may be added to the PV installation with a maximum power of 625 kW and a storage capacity of 1,275 kWh. When the solar installation generates more energy than is consumed at a given time, this surplus can be stored in such a battery and used later.
Together with the energy management system, the solar installation supplies two DC charging stations (360 kW), enabling the simultaneous charging of up to four trucks. Supply and demand of energy are continuously managed within the system by the energy management system.

‘Smart, fully integrated solution’
“The solution we have delivered for Westerman shows that we go beyond simply generating renewable energy,” says Karlijn Elias-Peters, Managing Director of Sunrock Netherlands. “To realise this integrated infrastructure, we worked closely with Westerman to ensure all systems operate together optimally. In that respect, this project is exemplary of what we do: designing, developing and delivering smart integrated energy solutions.”
Frank Hagenus, Facility Manager at Westerman Multimodal Logistics, describes the energy infrastructure at the distribution center in Nieuwleusen as a milestone. “It is a crucial step toward achieving our sustainability goals. We have high ambitions and have already succeeded in reducing our CO₂ emissions by 35 percent,” says Hagenus. “There are significant₂ opportunities for further sustainability improvements in our sector, and upcoming legislation and Zero Emission Zones make it an absolute necessity. By working with Sunrock, we have strengthened our position at the forefront of the market.”
